崩れていく、あるいは崩れていった関係を無慈悲に歌ったような曲。

緩やかに時を刻む楽器の音はハープだろうか。32人の聖歌隊と共に織られたというコーラスは、まるで真夜中に深々と降る吹雪のように身に染み込んでいく。

地獄のようなアルバムBroken Machineのボーナストラックに仕組まれた、霧が晴れたような明るいメロディーの曲。

この歌詞は最高にConorらしくて大好きだ。この「終わり」は彼がこのアルバムの全トラックを通して身を潜らせ苦しみ抜いた精神の闇、即ち「死」のことだと私は思う。

この後に出たEPのTake This Lonely Heartにも似た表現があった。

（僕の胸には穴が空いている
太陽に穴があるように）
（僕の胸には穴が空いていて
自分でどうにか生きてくんだ）

これも彼が苦しみと共に、それでも生きていくという決意を込めている歌詞だと思った。

"Generation beat"はBeat Generation（ビート・ジェネレーション＝打ちひしがれた世代）という固有名詞のことで、第二次世界大戦後の米国を中心に現れた、物質文明に疲弊し、既成の社会から脱して放浪生活を送った若者たち（後のヒッピーに影響を与えた）とのこと。

でも語順を逆にしていることと、のちに"Can you hear the sound?"と問いかけていることで、単語としてのBeat（音を出す、拍子を打つ、躍動する）の意味も二重で掛けているに違いないと思ったから、そんな感じに訳した。

"Red and white and blue"はアメリカの星条旗、そしてユニオンジャックのことも指すのかもしれない。猛烈な政治批判の一節だ。

perfect tenseとは「完了形」のこと。

既に終わってしまったこと、取り戻すことの出来ない過去の世界の中にまだ生きていたとしたら。まだやり直すことが出来たなら。

もう一度、一から始めよう。

僕等の運命は変われるんだ。

【和訳】Favorite Record / Fall Out Boy

幾重にも進化して戻ってきた彼等の、何だか可愛らしいこの曲に、不意打ちを食らったのを思い出す。

2ndアルバムFrom Under The Cork Treeを彷彿とさせるようなサクサクと刻まれる軽快なメロディーと、青春の不完全さを歌った歌詞には懐かしさすら覚えた。どう考えても私のお気に入りの曲にならざるを得なかった。

この曲を聞く度に、私の中になんだかRex Orange CountyのLoving is EasyのMVが思い浮かんで、そんな感じの可愛らしいコマ撮りMVを、infinity on highハウスを使って作ってみたくなる。

レコードに合わせて羊が踊るような、ゆるいほのぼの系の。今の私にはその技術が無いのがもどかしい…

この作品はずっと自分の部屋にあるから、誰か映像技術に長けていてコマ撮りに興味がある人は声をかけて欲しい。本気でこの作品を貸すから一緒に作って欲しい。

Jenna一人が登場し自己と対峙をする、まるで禅のようなスピリチュアルな曲だなと思った。

MVも最後には悟りが開けたような、答えを見つけ出したような。

この曲も最高にポップながら圧倒的に歌詞が死んでいる。ギャップが大好きだ。

今年は時間がなかったので、Spotifyにこんなplaylistを作った。

主に鬱や精神疾患を経験したアーティストの苦しみを歌った曲だとか、反対にそういう人達に優しく語りかけたり、寄り添ってくれるような曲。実際に自分の救いになっている曲達を集めた。

良かったらフォローしてくれると嬉しいです。初めてにしては結構いい感じの繋ぎができたと思う。本当はParamoreのこのアルバムとNothing But ThievesのBroken Machineは全曲入れたかったけど。

シングル曲としてリリースされた時のジャケ画を参考に。

The Seedの草

The Seedの歌詞から、AURORAの足元から草木を芽吹かせた。

こういう表現もジブリ映画にあった気がして、すごい好きなんだよなあ。もののけ姫でシシガミの首を返した時に再び緑に覆われた森だとか。メイとサツキがトトロと一緒に夢の中で植物を一気に成長させたシーンだとか。うーん。うろ覚えだけど他にも沢山あった気がする。静止した立体に「動き」を見せるのはとても楽しい。

この曲The Seedは環境問題について糾弾している曲。

この曲はメンタルヘルスの問題を受けて作られた曲。自殺率の高い若者、特に「男らしさ」という社会の求める重圧に苦しめられている男性に向けて、「感情を表に出すことは間違っていないのだ」と歌いかける曲だ。

海と陸地の繋ぎ目をどうするか凄く悩んだけれど、なんとなくジブリのラピュタみたいな感じにしてみた。

彼女のTwitterのBIOに

"dancing in a place between the moon and stars"
（月と星たちの間でダンスしてる）

って書いてあるんだ。かわいい。

他にも彼女の曲には月や星が沢山出てくるので、作品に欠かせないかなと思った。

今まで極限までリアルを求めた作品ばかり作ってきたから、こういう「明らかにリアルなはずがないもの」の表現に自分は苦労することに気がついた。難しい。新しい試練だね。

それからデザインにおける足し算と引き算。もっと太陽を煌びやかにしたり、動物を添えたりとか考えたけれど、なんだかしっくりこなくてやめた。沢山作ればいいものじゃないというの、難しい。

彼女はよく異なる二つのものを並べて矛盾を楽しんでるように思える。この曲は多分、部屋で独りきりになった時に色々と空想に耽っている曲。

彼女の歌詞は時々？？？となる表現が多い… 検索にかけても彼女の曲しかヒットしなかったり。ネイティブ的にもちょっと風変わりな言葉選びなのかもしれない。

インタビューを読む時もネイティブの英文じゃない雰囲気を感じる。まあ私もネイティブじゃないので確証がないけれど。とにかく訳すのが難しい。
